Frequently asked questions

Compatibility, activation, programming, and troubleshooting.

Before you buy

What is TimecodeMate3?

A timecode editor for REAPER with a grandMA3 plug-in for two-way synchronization. Create and edit Timecodes, Tracks, Events, and Sequences in either application. Edit Cue numbers, names, fades, delays, commands, and notes. Fixture values and lighting looks are programmed in grandMA3. Run Update from grandMA3 to review and exchange changes in both directions.

Which versions and platforms do I need?

REAPER 7.71 or newer and grandMA3/onPC 2.4+. One package contains the Windows x64 and macOS REAPER components and the grandMA3 plug-in; install both halves from the same release.

We test TimecodeMate3 with REAPER from 7.71 and grandMA3/onPC from 2.4 through current releases, while maintaining support for older versions within these ranges. Everything is expected to work. If you encounter a compatibility issue, email support@vldurnov.com; we will promptly release a compatibility fix.

Where do I buy and download it?

Buy from the TimecodeMate3 page on Gumroad. Gumroad shows the current price and provides your purchase download and License key. If its payment options don’t suit you, email support@vldurnov.com.

How many computers can I activate?

A licence supports up to two machine/profile slots. The activation key is tied to the computer/profile it was issued for. For a machine replacement, contact support@vldurnov.com.

What changed in Release 5?

The window floats or docks from its tab menu, with Automatic, Horizontal and Vertical layouts, hideable panes and interface scale for small screens. Q and Add event record at the play cursor during playback. New shortcuts select Track 1–9 (Mac Control+1–9, Windows Ctrl+Shift+1–9) or add an Event directly on Track 1–9 (Mac Command+Control+1–9, Windows Ctrl+Alt+Shift+1–9). Copy/Paste repeats a section on several Tracks. grandMA3 Update is more reliable, and + MA timecodes accepts ranges such as 1 Thru 5. macOS gains the Gumroad code field and update checks. The full list is in What’s new in Release 5.

Installation and activation

Which licence types can I use?

TimecodeMate3 accepts either a Gumroad License key (code) or a .tcm3lic licence file. Use the matching activation method in REAPER. Both return a computer-specific .tcm3key activation key.

How do I activate a licence file?

Choose Or open a licence file... and select your .tcm3lic. Use the activation page or QR code to download the computer-specific .tcm3key. Install it with Install existing .tcm3key file... on Windows or Install .tcm3key... on macOS. See licence activation.

How do I activate a Gumroad purchase?

Open Extensions > TimecodeMate3 > Show UI in REAPER. Paste the receipt’s License key into Enter your Gumroad code and select Activate code. This works the same on Windows and macOS, needs Internet access and installs the activation key automatically. A refused code stays in the field for correction. Without Internet access, use the QR code or an offline request instead. See installation and activation.

Can the REAPER computer stay offline?

Yes. Use the activation QR code with a connected device, or create an offline .tcm3req request and transfer it to a connected device. Bring the returned .tcm3key back to the REAPER computer and install it. Update needs a local connection over Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or a mixed network; Internet access is not required.

Do I need a .tcm3lic file from Gumroad?

No. A Gumroad purchase uses the License key from your receipt. The .tcm3lic flow is for licences supplied as a file. The .tcm3key returned by activation is what activates the computer.

Why does TimecodeMate3 not appear in REAPER?

Check that REAPER is 7.71 or newer. On Windows, the DLL must be directly inside REAPER’s UserPlugins folder. On macOS, rerun the supplied installer and complete any macOS security confirmation. Restart REAPER and open Extensions > TimecodeMate3 > Show UI.

How do I download TimecodeMate3 again or update it manually?

If you already have a licence, download the current package here: Download Release 5.0.1.

Use this download if you lost the original archive or the update check did not work. Close REAPER and grandMA3, then install both components from the same release following the installation instructions.

Activation still requires your existing Gumroad License key or licence file. If you have lost it too, email support@vldurnov.com.

How do I install a newer release?

Close the hosts and replace the REAPER component: on macOS, run the new installer, which replaces the previous extension; on Windows, copy the new DLL over the old one. Copy the complete grandMA3 plug-in folder from the release. Reimport the XML into the same Plugin Pool slot. Your installed activation key stays. On Windows and macOS, Settings, license and updates checks for new releases; Download update opens the release archive in your browser, and you install it yourself. See installing the grandMA3 plug-in.

How do I check that the update worked?

In REAPER, open Settings, license and updates... from the TimecodeMate3 window menu: it reads Release 5.0.1. In grandMA3, run the plug-in and look at System Monitor: it shows TCM3 TimecodeMate3 plugin loaded (build …). Both halves must come from the same release.

Programming and Update

Can I edit in grandMA3 as well as REAPER?

Yes. Update synchronizes in both directions. Edit the paired data in REAPER, grandMA3, or both, then run the grandMA3 plug-in. Changes made on only one side can be carried to the other; conflicting edits to the same value need a choice in the Summary.

How do I bring an existing MA Timecode into REAPER?

Open the destination REAPER project and start its server. Run the plug-in in the correct grandMA3 Data Pool, choose + MA timecodes (Add from MA) in the Summary, and enter a Timecode selection such as 3 or 1 Thru 5. Choose Continue, review the Summary, and press Update. See the step-by-step import instructions.

Do I need Add from MA after every console edit?

No. After a Timecode is paired, use normal Update to exchange further edits in either direction. Use Add from MA when you want to include another unpaired MA Timecode.

What if I change the same value on both sides?

If the edits conflict, choose the intended value in the Summary. Two-way Update keeps non-conflicting changes from both sides. The Reaper > and < MA options instead use the named side for differing synchronized values. See Update direction choices.

Does it continuously change my grandMA3 show?

No. You start synchronization from the grandMA3 plug-in. Check the changes in the Summary, then press Update. A reconnect can finish an exchange that was already prepared.

How do I connect REAPER and grandMA3 over Ethernet or Wi-Fi?

REAPER can stay offline from the Internet after activation. Update works over Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or a mixed local network: for example, a computer on Wi-Fi and a console connected by cable to the same router or access point.

Use any configured external Ethernet port on the console (Con1, Con2, or Con3, where available) that can reach the REAPER computer. Set its IPv4 address and subnet mask in Menu > Network > My Interfaces. In onPC, configure the network adapter in the operating system.

For a simple setup, use different addresses in the same subnet, for example REAPER 192.168.1.10, console 192.168.1.20, both with mask 255.255.255.0. Allow the REAPER server TCP port (default 48003) through the computer firewall, and disable Wi-Fi client isolation if it blocks communication between the devices.

In grandMA3’s REAPER endpoint, enter the REAPER computer’s IP address and server port (default 48003). Use 127.0.0.1 only when both applications run on the same computer. Connection instructions.

Why is Update unavailable in the Summary?

The Summary has a choice that needs your input, such as a conflicting value, target, or pool slot. Choose the option in that row. Once the required choices are made, Update becomes available.

Does deleting a Timecode in REAPER delete it on grandMA3?

No. Removing a synchronized Timecode or Sequence in REAPER leaves it in grandMA3. Removing a synchronized Timecode in grandMA3 leaves it in REAPER, with its sync paused. Event and Cue deletions can be synchronized, so check the Summary.

Why did an Event marker come back after I moved or deleted it?

The Event, its Track, or its Timecode may be locked or disabled. The native marker is restored when that edit is not allowed. Unlock or enable the intended object in TimecodeMate3 and try again.

Can I use an existing TimecodeMate2 project?

Yes. Back up the project, then run TCM3: Convert TimecodeMate 2 markers to Events. Check the Events and Cue targets before the first grandMA3 Update. Changes transfer when you run Update.

What should I include in a support request?

Email support@vldurnov.com with your operating system, REAPER version, grandMA3 version, TimecodeMate3 release, the steps that caused the problem, and the exact error text. A screenshot of the Summary or System Monitor can help explain an Update problem.
